Did you know that Hydraulic oils with the same specs can differ? 🛢️
Our Technical Manager investigated a complaint about ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil. The customer suspected low viscosity and sent a picture to us, suggesting water contamination.
After a plant visit, we were able to rule contamination out completely. It seemed a paler oil sample than the customer was used to had misled them. Back at our depot, shaking samples revealed air ingress, hindering pressure build up. Our manager consulted a hydraulic expert for common air entry points, helping the customer.
Laboratory tests confirmed viscosity at 45.6 cSt, anti-wear elements in line with major oil manufacturers, and no water. Checking historical reports, our manager noted a drop in zinc levels. AI didn't yield any answers, so he decided to contact labs and blenders, finding a shift toward 300 ppm zinc in recent records.
Discussions with an oil analysis expert unveiled that Group III & IV bases reduce sludge in long-life formulations, leading to lower ZDDP levels. For good anti-wear properties, Group I base with 400-1000 ppm zinc and phosphorus is preferred. We can supply ISO Type HM Hydraulic 46 with a robust 1260 ppm zinc concentration.
In conclusion: Not all hydraulic oils with the same specs are equal. Choose wisely! 🚀 #HydraulicOil #TechInsights #GoldcrestOilLtd #KnowledgeIsPower
